Compostela
Written during a Short Theatre Artist Residency at the Hawk’s Well Theatre, developed at Fringe Lab with the support of Dublin Fringe Festival, and supported by Fishamble New Play Clinic.
Compostela is a darkly funny solo show that uses physical theatre storytelling and magical realism to explore burnout in the wake of the 2018 repeal referendum. The play follows Dawn as she walks the Camino de Santiago after some gruelling months spent canvassing. She no longer has to walk for miles knocking on doors, she just has to walk to Santiago. No one said it was easy, but neither did anyone say your toes might explode, which would’ve been nice to know. This is a play for anyone who has ever had to ask for their rights, and do so politely.
